Our First Look at the Nokia 5800

Submitted by spectralblast on May 13, 2009 – 6:07 pmNo Comment

We finally were able to get the Nokia 5800 in our labs.  The 5800 is Nokia’s first attempt at a touch screen phone.  How does it fare as a phone or even against the big Apple?  Having been used to other Nokia phones, this phone actually felt refreshing with the touch screen interface.

I was initially concerned since the phone has a rather elongated look making the screen look a bit thin in portrait mode.   But once you turn the phone on its side and view content, the wide screen makes things a bit easier to look at especially when watching video or browsing web pages.  I was curious as to why the XpressMusic logo at the very top right of the phone is lit.  There was definitely a reason for that: touch that with your finger and you have quick access to some common functions such as pictures, video, web browsing.

The front of the phone has a very simple look with a fairly large screen and 3 buttons towards the bottom.  One button is to make a call, one is the cancel call button, and the middle button is used to the bring up the main menu screen.
