Thecus N2200 Released

Submitted by spectralblast on October 1, 2009 – 4:30 amNo Comment

As an entry level NAS, one may think its features are stripped down, but it seems to have the most wanted features that a consumer would want. Being ideal for digital media and files, you can hold up to two 3.5″ SATA hard drives allowing a capacity of up to 4 Terabytes. With RAID 0, 1, and JBOD support, you can choose whether you want to arrange your drives to be optimized for performance or data backup purposes. While some NAS products require opening up the internals to install/replace a hard drive, this product makes swapping hard drives easy by having hot swap, hot plug, and auto-rebuild capabilities. The auto-rebuilding capabilities are interesting at first glance. The LCD display on the front makes it easy to identify the current status of the NAS such as hard drive access, LAN conne ctivity, and USB copying status. Thecus claims installation is a breeze with its Smart Utility that helps backup your files and install the NAS with a single click making it very easy to manage the NAS.

This NAS isn’t just for storage, it also has a coveted Download Manager which allows you to download files without having to leave your computer on for hours and hours. If you like downloading from Bittorent, that feature is included. As seen on other NAS products, you can connect IP cameras, USB cameras and turn the NAS into a surveillance server. It is also packed with great multimedia features such as turning the NAS into an iTunes server, a place to manage photos, and even stream media. You can expect this product to be energy efficient and quiet as well.

The N2200 breaks new ground in the two-bay value NAS segment with its terrific features and ease-of-use, said Thecus General Manager Florence Shih. “This is a great unit for first-time users to experience the fun and convenience of Thecus NAS technology.”

Stay tuned for a review of this product.
