Sumolounge Omni Bean Bag Chair Review

Submitted by spectralblast on October 1, 2009 – 5:37 amNo Comment

In this review, we take a bit of a twist compared with our typical reviews.  This isn’t an electronic device or a gadget.  It simply is a bean bag chair!  But this isn’t an ordinary bean bag chair that you can pick up at your local store.  To make it to our site, it just had to come from a unique company with a unique product.  This is the kind of product that will definitely cater to those who have an urban lifestyle or a piece of furniture to match their techie style.  Today, we will be having a look at the Sumolounge Omni Bean Bag Chair.

Sumolounge Omni Bean Bag Chair

I think this this may be the biggest package that I have ever received.  It came in a humongous white box that stood tall up to my neck.  Fortunately, the box was much lighter than I thought so I was able to easily lift it and bring it to my room.

Opening the box

I was greeted with a Midnight blue beanbag. This product really oozes quality.  Just by touching the material of the bean bag chair and sitting in it, you know that this is not cheap stuff.  I would consider the outer material pretty thick.  In some ways, it feels like the material on a nylon backpack.

You must be wondering by looking at the picture what the bean bag really looks like.  In its most basic shape and form, it is rectangular and would look like a pillow for a giant.  When I spread it out on the floor, there is enough filling for you to lay in it and still provide plenty of padding.

Now the fun begins!  The unique thing about this product is that it is versatile.  You don’t have to leave it in a rectangular shape in order to use, you can pretty much shape the product in any way you want.  For example, by standing the product up and letting the majority of the filling fall to the ground, you have essentially created the shape of a bean bag.  Once you sit on it, you can shape it even further.  I was able to shape it in a way that left a deep hole in the middle to sit it.  It looks like a chair, but not quite.

Think of this product almost like a piece of play dough in your hand.  You can shape this bean bang however you like so that you will be comfortable on it.  You can either lay on the ground, sit on top, or just be a slacker and lay partially on it.  I put the bean bag in the living room of the house and everyone likes to use.   They will sit on it when they watch TV because it is actually comfortable.  The bean bag molds to the shape of your body providing support ensuring that you are comfortable in whatever position you want to sit in.

I was curious to see what the filling inside looked like.  It is filled with tiny white foam balls.  Sumo claims that on cheaper beanbags, the foam balls used are of lower quality, but I have yet to tell.

As a note, although this particular review only shoes a blue beanbag, the Sumo Omni comes in 10 different colors to match the decor of your room.  This product claims to have as many as 10 different positions.  I have only found half of them probably because I haven’t explored enough or I my mind isn’t creative enough.

The only minor gripes with the product is that when you sit in the product, the foam brushing against the material of the bean bag when moving will make some noticeable swooshing sounds. If you’re watching some TV, you’ll need to sit still so you can catch the subtle sounds and dialouge from your TV.  Also, given that the advantage of this product is that it can be shaped, it is also its disadvantage as well.  Unless you’ve found your absolute perfect position, you will be spending most of your effort shaping this porduct sometimes to get the right shape that you will be comfortable in.  If you have a guest sit on it, the shape will probably conform to them and then you will probably have to reshape the product again so you can get it back to how you want it.

The Sumolounge Omni bean bag retails for $149 and can be bought at Sumolounge.com.  This may be hard to swallow at first, but given the size and quality of product, you will realize it is pretty much like another piece of furniture in your house.  I was surprised and impressed with the quality of the product.  The outside material is thick and washable and I think is resistant to odors at the least.  Sumolounge does offer other types of beanbags as well.  If you are looking for something that can fit two people, you might want to consider the Sumolounge Sumosack Couple.  If you are looking for a high quality bean bag with some flexibility in shape and style, I think this is one of the best ones to consider.
