Determining the (IP) Address of your Computer

Submitted by ronako on December 25, 2008 – 7:58 pmNo Comment

The address of your computer is necessary when you are trying to connect to another computer on your network or for other reasons.

1) Click ‘Start’

2) Click ‘Run’
*If you are using Windows Vista, no need to do this step. Do the next step in the search box.

3) Type ‘cmd’ in the box. A black command window should pop up

4) Type ‘ipconfig’

5) You will see a bunch of information appear.  Depending on how many network devices you have in your computer, what you see may be more or less.  In this case, the address of my computer is 192.168.0.110.  Any address that typically starts with 192.168.x.x is an internal address to your network.  The public address that people will see may be different.
